In late November, the South Colonie Central School District kicked off its 2022 partnership with the Capital Region Toys for Tots program hosting multiple toy drives at district locations to support children in need this holiday season. As part of their collective efforts, Colonie Central High School iCare students hosted a special holiday lights event on campus on Saturday, Dec. 10 bringing in a total of 16 boxes of toys to support the cause.
“Our Colonie families came out and enjoyed a fun festive evening while supporting a great cause,” said Brian Scalzo, associate principal at CCHS. “Families were asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to the event and our school community was so generous with their giving, we could not be more thankful.”
In addition to a live performance from CCHS Chamber singers and the symphonic orchestra, the following organizations participated in this year’s event: Fuller Road Fire Department, Midway Fire Department, Latham Fire Department, Boght Fire Department, Stanford Heights Fire Department, West Albany Fire Department, Schuyler Heights Fire Department, Verdoy Fire Department, Colonie Village Fire Department, Colonie EMS, Colonie Police Department, Colonie Police Explorer Post, Albany Airport Fire Department, Albany County Sheriffs, New York State Police, South Colonie Transportation Department, and Mike Romano and Son Trucking.
“This event would not be possible without our student organizers and of course our community partners that hosted displays,” Scalzo added.
“We were so excited to see so many from our community come out and support a great cause,” said CCHS iCare co-presidents Emily Terry and Ella Irons. “We also collected over $600 in support of our club’s charities of choice: Where Angels Play and Safe Harbour. We can’t wait to see this event grow from here,” they added.
