The South Colonie Board of Education held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday night to officially open the new Forest Park Elementary School library. They also dedicate a plaque commemorating the library project, which was part of a $13.8 million capital upgrade referendum approved by district voters in October, 2014.
The 2014 project is known as Phase I and II of Colonie 2020. Along with the Forest Park library, Phase I and II included a new library now under construction at Roessleville Elementary School, a new Art, Music and Technology wing at Colonie Central High School that was dedicated last week, the installation of wireless Wi-Fi Internet at all eight schools, along with other technology upgrades such as Voice-Over Internet Phone systems and improved building inter-communication systems, among other things.
Last month, South Colonie voters approved a second capital project referendum, Phases III and IV of Colonie 2020. Colonie 2020 is a multi-phase capital initiative designed to maintain and improve school facilities, provide critical technology improvements/access for students, address health and safety issues and improve energy efficiency.
