The Ottumwa girls basketball and volleyball programs are excited to announce that they will be hosting a COMBINED youth camp this summer for girls entering grades 4-9 in the fall. The camp will host two age divisions, elementary (grade 4/5/6 in the fall) and middle school (grade 7/8/9) in the fall.
Camp will be held June 1-3 at Evans Middle School from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Players attending both camps will receive water and fruit provided by Fareway Stores in Ottumwa.
Players can attend just basketball or volleyball for $25. Players interested in attending both camps pay $40. All players will receive a shirt. "This is a great opportunity for our youth and Coach Thomas and I are excited to see this camp grow," said Joe VandenBerg, head girls basketball coach.
High school coaches and players will be on hand to help players increase their volleyball / basketball skills and awareness for how the game is played. Volleyball players will drill on passing, setting, serving, receiving, digging and attacking, as well as understanding the concept of defending their court and attacking their opponent’s court as a team.
Basketball players will drill on passing, dribbling, setting picks, rebounding and different types of shooting, as well as training on the techniques of running an effective offense and defense as a team. Players may attend just the volleyball or just the basketball camp, or they may attend both. If attending both, players will be given fruit and a bottled water for the break, provided by Fareway Stores. All players will receive a t-shirt for attending camp.
