The Ottumwa Schools band and orchestra programs will host an Open House on Tuesday, April 27 at Liberty Elementary School from 4-7 p.m. The open house will be held in the school's music rooms, located across from the school media center down the main hallway. Masks are required.
Parents received notification of this event along with these frequently asked questions:
1. I FILLED OUT THE GOOGLE INTEREST FORM, DID THAT SIGN ME UP FOR THE CLASS?
The interest form allowed us to share with the guidance department at Evans who is interested in
band, orchestra, and choir for next year so they can start student schedules. Students who
expressed interest in choir will automatically be signed up for choir. Band and orchestra students
still need to attend the open house to meet your director and obtain an instrument from the school, West Music, or Schultz Strings.
2. HOW DO I JOIN THE BAND OR ORCHESTRA?
The Ottumwa Instrumental Program will be holding an open house night for students and their
parents. The open house will be held Tuesday, April 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Liberty. Students and parents will meet the directors and choose what instrument they would like to play. Students and parents will meet the directors in the music rooms.
3. WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE AN INSTRUMENT?
West Music and Schultz Strings will be available at the open house to help you with renting an
instrument. They will also have these items available for purchase: lessons books, reeds, valve oil,
cleaning kits, rosin, shoulder rests and folding music stands. The school district does have some
instruments available for rent on a limited basis. The school instruments are available for students
that would not otherwise be able to participate in our program. We highly recommend against using
Amazon for the purchase of instruments.
4. WHAT INSTRUMENTS ARE IN THE BAND AND ORCHESTRA?
Band instruments are: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto or Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn,
Trombone, Baritone, Tuba and Percussion (which includes both snare drum and bells).
Orchestra instruments are: Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass.
5. WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND TUESDAY NIGHT?
Contact either Mr. Martin or Mrs. Hoover (email addresses are below) and we would be glad to set up
a phone call or Zoom Meeting with you. After you meet with the director, you may rent or purchase an
instrument online using the following websites.
