Every student at Wilson Elementary will be the recipient of a new pair of tennis shoes, thanks to The Bridge Church in Ottumwa. Over the past several years, several Ottumwa elementary students have been the recipients of new shoes. This year, the shoe giveaway is targeting Wilson Elementary.
"Our mission is to rebuild, repair, and restore Ottumwa," said Angie Allgood, the Connections Coordinator at The Bridge. "It's a chance for us to be a part of the community and care for the community."
On Thursday, March 25, 15 volunteers were on site measuring students for their new shoes. This involved looking at the current size of the child's shoe and then trying on a sample shoe. Students were excited at the prospect of receiving a new pair of shoes.
The Bridge will send a permission form home to ensure parents want to participate, said Allgood. New shoes will be distributed in May.
