Young Inventors Invited to Competition

invention convention entry

Attention all inventors!  The Ottumwa Invention Convention will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Liberty Elementary from 5:30-8 p.m.  If needed, the snow date for this event will be February 6.

All Ottumwa Community School District students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in the convention.  Those participating must create a simple, working invention and tri-fold poster, along with students in grades 3-8 will be required to create a log book documenting their work.

To sign up for the Invention Convention, please talk with your school’s secretary.  Interested students can pick up a rules sheet in both English and Spanish, an entry form, log book, and a tips sheet, starting November 25.  Entry forms must be returned to the school office by 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 23 to secure your spot in the event.

For the second year, any child in grades K-5 who signs up for the event AND attends that evening with all of the necessary requirements will have their name put in a drawing to win one of two scholarships to attend Camp Invention ($235 value), a summer STEM camp.  Camp Invention will be held at Evans Middle School from July 6-10.  More information about this camp can be found at: https://www.invent.org/programs/camp-invention.

If you have further questions about the event, please contact Breanna Hinmon, coordinator, at Liberty Elementary at 641-682-4502 or at br[email protected].  Have fun inventing!
