Learning About Life Cycles

As part of the fourth grade science curriculum, students have been observing meal worms for the past six weeks. Students are making at least two observations a week and recording information in their science notebook.

Each group (4-5 students) is learning about the meal worm life cycle. First, there is the egg stage, then the eggs hatch into the larvae stage, which would look like the meal worms. They then go into a pupa state, where the meal worm will make it's final change into a darkling beetle.

"Students are very excited about observing their meal worms everyday and documenting any changes they see," said Michelle Williams, a fourth grade teacher. "They also are learning how to be responsible by feeding their meal worms apples when needed."
