2014 Tech Fair on Friday

The Ottumwa Community School District and Indian Hills Community College are co-sponsoring a Tech Fair on Friday, May 9 for district students in the Advanced Technology Center at Indian Hills. The fair will offer students a rich variety of technology experiences.

Tech Fair 2014 was created to celebrate the technology talents of young students.  Two students from each classroom in grades 3-5 were selected to participate. Throughout the fair, students will share technology projects with peers, teachers, and the community using a device of their choice; hear from a keynote speaker; and attend a small group session. Students will receive a t-shirt and lunch will be provided by Indian Hills.

A large group session will feature keynote speaker, Brandon Brooks, an Industrial Technology teacher at Evans Middle School.  Brooks is in his first year with Ottumwa Schools teaching two Project Lead the Way courses, Automation and Robotics and Design and Modeling. He also hosts an after school Engineering Club.

Participating students will also attend a workshop offered by Indian Hills Community College in the following areas:

  • Informational Technology–Computer Networks and Security; Computer Software Development; Digital Forensics
  • Accounting and Administrative-Accounting Assistant; Administrative Assistant; Business Specialist (Accounting and Office Management)
  • Transportation–Auto Technology; Automotive Collision Technology; Diesel Power Technology
  • Advanced Manufacturing–Laser Electro/Optics, Robotic Technology, and Electronics Technology. 

The ATC building at Indian Hills Community College will remain open until 5 p.m. for public viewing of student projects.
