Four district elementary schools will be serving fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a grant through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Program.. The grant is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The produce is not served as part of the lunch program but is given as a snack sometime during the day, Monday through Thursday. No produce is provided on Fridays or on early release days.
Distribution will begin on September 5. Participating schools this year include: Douma, James, Wilson, and Liberty Elementary Schools.
