Participation Continues in USDA Program

Liberty, Wilson, Douma, and James Elementary Schools have been awarded the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable grant for the 2015-16 school year.  This is a federally-assisted program that provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools during the school day.

The goal of this program is to improve children's overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The program helps schools create healthier environments, expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables available to children, and increasing fruit and vegetable consumption.

The program will begin on Tuesday September 8 and will run Monday through Thursday, with no service on early out days.
