Students in Mrs. Canny's second grade class were given a design challenge by media specialists, Joni Nicholson, to build a shelf that would support our visiting elf, named Elvis. They were given clothes pins, craft sticks and binder clips as their only materials. Students worked in groups of two or three to come up with a design that would hold the elf's weight. After several failed attempts, students redesigned until they were successful."This was a highly engaging activity and they are already asking me for a new challenge after the holidays!" said Nicholson.
