Iowa children’s author, Ryan Sloth, visited Wilson Elementary School on Friday, April 11 to read his books, featuring Sammy Sloth. He created the Sammy Sloth character in his high school English class.
Sloth, a high school football standout, went on to play at Iowa State University. He then played arena football for the Columbus Destroyers and Bakersfield Blitz before returning to Iowa to play for the Barnstormers. He is now the defensive/special teams coach for the Barnstormers.
He has also portrayed a football player in two movies, “We are Marshall” and “Leathernecks,” sharing scenes with George Clooney and Matthew McConaughey.
