Third grade students were able to dissect an owl pellet to discover all of the indigestible material that is too dangerous to pass through the rest of the owl’s digestive tract. The pellet is full of teeth, skulls, claws, bones, and feathers. A regurgitated pellet may take six hours or more to produce, and may contain the remains of 4 or 5 small mammals! All owls produce pellets and dissecting them is a great way to find out what an owl eats!
