Congratulations to Tristan Ramirez, a third grade student who won a free bike, helmet, and lock on the last day of school! The bike and supplies were donated by Spoke Folk, a local bike club. This is the second year in a row the club has donated a brand new bike to an Ottumwa student. The club also does bike safety lessons and hands out free helmets to every kindergarten student.
Spoke Folk Bicycle Club has been in Ottumwa since the 1980’s. This family-oriented club is made up of about 40 people of all ages and abilities who like to bike. They host organized rides in the summer and organize bus and gear transportation for members who participate in RAGBRAI, a weeklong ride across Iowa.
Spoke Folk feels that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy this great activity and encourage everyone to wear a helmet.
