Student ambassadors help their peers transition to their new school at Horace Mann Elementary.
Last year, staff looked for additional ways to connect student council members, called Horace Mann Heroes, to the school. The result of that brainstorming was using Heroes to help welcome new students to their school.
Recently, DeAundrey Jones enrolled as a fourth grader at Horace Mann. Third graders Emerson Bowser and Tamsin McElderry were recruited to take him on a building tour; introduce him to key staff members, including Principal Jody Williams; explain the Bulldog Bucks program; and share their viewpoints about Horace Mann. The last stop of the tour was DeAundrey’s new classroom.
Their tour included the library, gym, computer lab, and playground. They shared that most teachers are basically nice and that the best thing about Horace Mann is “recess for everyone,” said McElderry.
Jones’ first impression of Horace Mann? “It’s big,” he said. He thought the student tour was a good idea. “It’s more fun than with an adult,” he shared.
