Two students at Horace Mann were place winners at the national PTA Reflections contest in Iowa. The theme this year was “Let your Imagination Fly.”
Ben Moreland, a fifth grader, placed third in the special artist division for visual arts for grades K-12. He is the son of Payson and Ellen Moreland.
Nellie Langland, a third grader, placed fourth in the literature category of the annual PTA Reflections contest. She is the daughter of Jim and Cherie Langland. Langland’s entry was a story about a girl and her father. Her teachers are Mrs. Fall and Mrs. Witt.
Reflections is a National PTA program that allows students to express their creativity and imaginations. The categories are Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, & Film Production. All entries are judged anonymously locally by volunteer professionals from Ottumwa. Students in grades K-5 submitted 152 entries and 24 entries were selected to advance to the state level. These students were honored with trophies at our Reflections assembly held in March. We also recognized several students with Medals of Excellence or Merit Medals.
“Ben and Nellie were two placement winners at state,” said Jamie Bowser, PTA Reflections chairperson. “We could not be more proud of them!”
