Students Use Obstacle Course for Fitness

Horace Mann students recently used the Railyard Conditioning Course in PE.

The Railyard is an indoor obstacle course that makes exercise fun. Students think the obstacle course is play but in reality, the Railyard is serious exercise that develops strength, balance, coordination, agility, flexibility, endurance, burns calories, speed, power, and improves cardiovascular health and posture.

The Railyard is part of a rotating set of equipment that each school has access to for several weeks each year. The equipment supports the district's balance instruction.

"What is so exciting is that students who don't really like exercise are some of the most active when this equipment is at Horace Mann," said Bonnie Cobler, PE teacher at Horace Mann. "Kids walk into the gym and cheer because they love it so much."
