Beautification Day is Friday

2013 Beautification Day participants

Fifth Grade Beautification will be this Friday, May 23 from 12:45-2:45 p.m. on the grounds of Horace Mann.  Teachers Tracy Meister and Ann Weilbrenner tie this activity into math by finding the perimeter and area of designated work spaces; into science by discussing the differences between annual and perennial plants; what plants are best suited to an area; and into literacy by allowing children to use non-fiction reading material to learn more about plants, planting, and gardening within their workshop time.

This activity also coincides with the district's Essential Learnings. The beautification project fosters responsible community members within the school community. "The children love taking pride in their school and its surroundings," said Ms. Meister.
