Eisenhower 5th graders participated in Science Camp on Thursday, September 16, utilzing the wetlands and prairie areas on the school's campus.
A variety of activities supporting fifth grade science were available to students in both large and small group settings. Activities included: tree identification, habitat, pond activities, prairie walk, etc. They also made concrete stepping stones for their own yards and even walked through the prairie in socks turned wrong side out to learn how animals help with seed distribution.
"I like to be outdoors learning," said Macie VandenBerg. She also enjoyed working in small groups with students from the other fifth grade class, as well as her own. Seeing the retired teachers was an added bonus. "My second grade teacher was here today!"
Camp concluded with a hot dog and marshmallow roast at 5 p.m. around a camp fire. Thanks to retired Eisenhower staff Gary Gullion, Nancy Manson, Eileen Day, Julie Lawrence, and Gail Granneman for their knowledge and assistance.
