Two fifth graders at Eisenhower Elementary are selling shirts to promote friendship.
Brylee Jaeger and Miya Fuller hope to raise enough money to build a friendship bench for Eisenhower’s playground. The bench is for students to engage with others. If someone isn’t playing with anyone during recess, they can sit on the bench and someone will invite them to join in. The idea came from their teacher, Ms. Blacksmith during a conversation about being kind.
To raise money, the two innovative fifth graders are selling t-shirts. Shirt orders were sent home with students on May 3. The girls will take orders through May 18, with shirt orders expected to be delivered prior to the end of the school year.
The blue shirts feature the word “kind” with words that describe kindness by each letter. Blacksmith’s fifth graders came up with the descriptive words, including knowledge, integrity, necessity, and deliberate.
Once funds are raised, Jaeger’s grandfather has offered to build the bench. Any remaining proceeds will be donated to Eisenhower.
