Students at Eisenhower Elementary planted 10 trees Friday afternoon. What made the last Friday in October unusual was the temperature, with the thermometer nearing 80 degrees.
The trees, along with another 35 planted at Evans and Liberty, were funded by Alliant Energy through the Branching Out program, sponsored by Trees Forever. The program works with organizations to plant trees throughout the state.
Eisenhower’s Outdoor Learning Center has a tradition of planting trees. Many of the students have participated in plantings in the past but were still eager to learn the details of planting trees. Classroom groups worked together to plant oaks, crabapples, buckeyes, and maple trees.
Most impressive tree fact the groups knew: trees use carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, helping to purify the air we breathe.
