Douma Families:
We have several changes to our protocols and procedures in order to prioritize health and safety in the 20-21 school year. Below is a list of important information you will need to know that may be a change from previous years.
- We will not host a face to face Back to School night this year. We will be providing virtual Back to School videos soon!
- We ask that students do not bring backpacks this year. We will not have take home folders this year and will go paperless whenever possible and your teacher will communicate a designated day of the week if they have hard copy items they are sending home.
- Visitors are limited to essential staff only at this time. You are welcome to call and make an appointment for required meetings. At this time, parents will not be entering the building without an appointment to limit potential exposure for all.
- Students will be expected to wear a face covering while at school and if riding a bus.
- All drinking fountains will be turned off. We have 3 newly installed water bottle fillers and encourage you to send a reusable water bottle for your child. Students will be allowed to have only water in a bottle any other beverage will be poured out and refilled with water.
- We will not be hosting food related celebrations in the classroom at this time. Any items, such as birthday treats, must be created in a commercial kitchen and individually packaged (ie. fruit snacks). These items will either be sent with each student to enjoy at lunch or will be sent home at the end of the day.
- Ottumwa CSD will use a consistent communication app, Remind, at all levels. Your child's teacher will be sending out information to connect to the class soon. Remind is available for free download on Apple and Android devices.
- We will not have communal school supplies in the classroom this year. Each teacher will have an individual storage solution that best meets the needs in their classroom.
- We will host 3 preschool classrooms at Douma this year and have staggered the start and end time to try to relieve traffic congestion.
- Families that choose to bring their child and pick them up will need to remain in their vehicle until 740 am and 315 pm.
