Douma Elementary has had the wonderful opportunity to connect with the family of Frank W. Douma, our school's namesake. Not only did the Douma family come to Ottumwa this summer to tour the building named after their father/grandfather/great grandfather, they have also continued to reach out and offer support for the children and families currently attending Douma Elementary.
In addition to sending warm wishes to the Douma staff, the family has also commited to gifting a refrigerator to the school's Food Pantry. Douma Food Pantry, in partnership with the Iowa Food Pantry, serves close to 100 families a month. We are grateful for this partnership opportunity and the ability to provide this service to the local community. The gift from the Douma family will allow us to continue to diverisfy the food box options we provide weekly on Tuesday's and Friday's.
