A new multi-purpose facility will be constructed adjacent to Evans Middle School during 2022, with an expected completion by December 2022.

The $4.5 million project will add much needed practice facilities for students in grades 6-12, according to Dave Harper, Executive Director of Human Resources & Operations. Not only will the additional space alleviate gym congestion but it will also reduce the number of early and late practices. The facility will feature:

  • State-of-the-art wrestling room
  • Two full-size basketball courts
  • Shower facilities
  • Spectator seating for youth leagues
  • Physical education offices
  • Storage
  • Locker room to support fall sports

Located on the southside of Evans, the new addition will be connected to the existing building via a hallway. It will be easily accessible from the school's other gymnasium and multi-purpose space.

During a presentation to the Board of Directors in December, construction documents are 95% complete. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2022 with the board approving the final bids on February 14. Construction will begin in March with substantial completion anticipated for December.

"While the new addition is not being designed as a competition space, it will provide much needed gym access to meet our current and future needs," said Harper. "This facility will provide our students and families with a state-of-the-art facility that aligns with our efforts to be the best school in Iowa."
