Three District Programs Receive Legacy Funding

check award

James Elementary received $2,500 to create a sensory room.

Three district projects received funding this week from the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation's Youth Alliance. Each project received a check this week to support student projects. Funded projects included:

  • James Elementary School was awarded $2,500 to create a Sensory Room. Vanessa Phillips, a fifth grade student at James, described the vision room best, by sharing its importance to allow all students a safe space to calm down and refocus.
  • The Ottumwa High School Best Buddies chapter received $1,400 to pay for activity expenses as well as 2022-2023 chapter dues. Club sponsors are Alair Gregory and Stephen Livingston. OHS Officers include President Lila Stock and Vice President Erika Smith.
  • Stomp Out Stigma at Ottumwa High School received $2,300 to create a student-led video regarding mental health. The video will be made available to anyone that has a loved one living with mental health concerns. Picture frames will also be purchased and installed in bathroom stalls at OHS. The frames will display mental health resources. Providing mental health resources in school bathrooms educates students in private.

Thank you Legacy for supporting these student projects.
