The district received a green light on August 9 to proceed with the purchase of property across the street from Ottumwa High School that will eventually be converted into a parking lot. The property is owned by Frase Company Rentals, LLC. The purchase agreement, which totals $528,000, includes $125,000 for asbestos abatement, $256,000 for demolition and site cleanup, and $147,000 for the clean site, construction-ready parcel.
Under the contract, Frase would be responsible for the demolition of the building, the current parking lot and concrete walkways as well as asbestos abatement and removal prior to possession by the district, slated at no later than Dec. 31, 2021.
Facility committee member, Jeremy Weller, stated the committee recommends the purchase of property to the south of OHS which will help address parking needs at the high school and enable the front steps to be used as a secure entrance.
