The Iowa Trap Championship, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, was held at the Iowa State Trap Association home grounds near Cedar Falls. The OHS athletes competed in three days of trapshooting competition June 11 - 13 against 769 varsity athletes from across the state.
Ottumwa entered nine varsity athletes and one JV athlete to make up two squads. Squad number one competed against 160 squads and shot 961 targets out of 1,000 to put them in a tie for third with Algona. In their shoot off round of 25 targets, all five athletes hit every single target for a perfect score of 125 to earn the third-place trophy!
Squad #1 members included: Cole Van Nest, Zach Ross, Brae Simmers, Jaxton Elliott, and Josh Goben. The other five who competed included: Gabe Jacobs, Mason Heidebrink, Kaylee House, Jackson Corzett, and Zane Kirubakaran (JV).
All 10 team members will compete at nationals on July 16-17 in Marengo, OH.
