Being the Best means that we’re committed to providing high quality and fun summer school learning experiences for our students. Ottumwa Bulldogs from preschool to high school have been engaged throughout this week in learning that builds their reading and math skills, experimenting with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities and earning much needed credits.

Three sections of preschool students were offered averaging 33 students per day. These young learners had ample opportunities in learning centers that allowed them to explore indoors and outdoors learning social skills, early literacy and numeracy skills. Meanwhile, over 125 kindergarten through 4th grade students ramp up skills with an hour and a half of literacy, 45 minutes of math, and daily STEM activities including making boats and slime! Students focus on foundational reading skills and math interventions that will roll out for the fall.

At Evans we are off to a great start. We have 35 students in attendance daily. The students have participated in a book study of "Night of the Twisters." They have also built a rollercoaster, completed math activities using the Dream Box program, and worked on leveled reading skill practice using Exact Path. The teachers have created a fun learning environment where the students are enjoying the learning and activities.

The OHS Summer Term at Indian Hills has been a wonderful experience for students and staff alike! We are averaging over 120 students daily and our summer staff team has been amazing in building relationships and helping our students make up credits.

Ottumwa Schools is proud and grateful to have dedicated leaders and staff to provide this enriching summer experience for our students. We look forward to improving our summer programming every year and involving more students in the years to come.
