National School Counseling Week - Abby Brain

Abby Brain

In her fourth year at OHS as a school counselor, Abby Brain’s first group of students will graduate from high school this spring. “It’s really exciting,” she said. “I haven’t had that experience before.

This week is National School Counseling Week.  The week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Brain is one of three school counselors serving OHS. Working with high school students is where she wants to be. The biggest part of her job is building relationships and helping students transition from Evans Middle School.

As the freshmen counselor, she works closely with the Freshman Academy teachers, meeting with the team twice a week to ensure that all students are successful. She also works closely with her students and parents.

“School counselors provide a unique and vital role in schools,” Brain said. “Often times they coordinate services, working with parents to advocate what’s best for students.”

“I have a passion for working with older students,” she said. “I enjoy helping them to see their future and get to where they would like to be.”
