Meal Distribution for the Holiday Break

students leave with meals

On Monday, December 18, Ottumwa Schools delivered over 28,800 meals to students. Each student received 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and a 1/2 gal. of milk. Thanks to food service for coordinating this massive effort. Menus are developed, food is ordered, then is prepacked in bags and boxed for delivery to school buildings. Volunteers from the OHS Torch Club and community volunteers from Grace Church for assisted with bagging up the meals. Boxes of meals are then shipped to each school.

Staff members in each building then assist students in picking up meals at the end of the school day. This effort, supported through federal funds, allows the district to support families during the holiday break.

Families who may have additional needs over the holiday break can utilize the community meal distribution by calling OHS at 641-683-1190 on Wednesday, December 30 by 8:30 a.m. Meals can be picked up at the drive through location on the Fourth St. side of Ottumwa High School between 10-11 a.m.
