Ottumwa is shifting to a virtual learning model on Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24, due to staff shortages related to COVID-19. These days are connected to two additional no school days, the November 20 conference day and November 25 holiday break. This results in four "school" days where students will not have access to school lunch.
With all students eligible for free lunch this year, the district's food service department will provide four breakfasts and four lunches to all face-to-face students in grades PK-12 on Thursday, November 19 at the end of the school day. Parents do not have to sign-up to participate. These meals will be pre-packaged for students, including a bag of non-perishables, a bag of perishables, and a 1/2 gallon of milk.
Each building will develop their own distribution plan. Watch for specific messages from your building with details.
Bulldog Virtual Learning students will continue to pickup meals. See the Bulldog Virtual Learning website for school lunch information.
Parents with students in quarantine on Thursday, November 19 can pick up meals on Thursday, between 10-11 AM at OHS (Fourth St.). Elementary families can call their school to sign up. Evans and OHS families call 641-683-1190 prior to 8:30 AM on Thursday. Children don't have to be present. Drivers stay in their car and meals are placed in the back seat or trunk. Please wear a mask.
"We know it is important to families that all students are nourished and ready to learn whether at home or in the classroom," said Yvonne Johnson, Ottumwa Food and Nutrition Services Director. "We are happy to provide food to them while learning from home."
