ELPAC – English Language Proficiency Assessments of California
The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. State and federal law require that local educational agencies administer a state test of ELP to eligible students in kindergarten through grade twelve. It consists of two separate ELP assessments: one for the initial identification of students as English learners (ELs), and a second for the annual summative assessment to measure a student’s progress in learning English and to identify the student’s level of ELP.

Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA)
The Orcutt Union School District began utilizing an assessment program in all of our district schools during the 2009/10 school year. The Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) assessment program is a technology-based system that focuses on individual student growth in three academic areas: Language, Mathematics, and Reading.
The assessments, referred to as Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), are given three times per year to students in grades 1 – 6, and two times per year to students in grades 7-8. Teachers have access to the results within 48 hours. Information generated from the student reports will be shared with parents throughout the year. If you have questions about NWEA, please contact your child’s teacher and/or principal. You can also visit the NWEA website at www.nwea.org.
The NWEA Testing Windows for 2023/2024 school year are:
- October 16-November 1, 2023
- February 13-March 1, 2024
- May 8-May 23, 2024
Each school will set a testing schedule during the window – for more information on individual school testing schedules, please contact the school principal.
Students new to Orcutt Union School District in grades 3-8 may also be tested at the beginning of the school year to determine academic placement.
