This is your Principal, Mr. Duncan, with what we have planned for your children over at Andover for our upcoming week.
Andover PTA reminds parents and students that the GLoW brighter wall in our lobby will shine brightly through the month's end! We’ve noticed the mailbox has been overflowing with heartfelt notes every day, and we truly appreciate the spirit of kindness that our community has shown. We encourage students to continue this beautiful tradition by writing encouraging messages, notes of appreciation, and kind words to all teachers, past and present, and the rest of our dedicated staff. Your thoughtful messages can make a significant difference in brightening someone’s day and fostering a supportive environment for all. Thank you for spreading kindness!
Additionally, thank you to families who attended the PAL-intine Glow Party last Friday night, sponsored by the Andover PTA. Your support of their activities and participation in after-school functions really helps support ALL of Andover Elementary.
The Andover Donation Bin, conveniently located at the corner of our parking lot, was just emptied, and we’re hoping you can help us fill it up again. We’d appreciate you providing us with any used clothing that your child has outgrown or no longer wears to be donated to help others in our community. The Foundation of Orange County returns a portion of the proceeds back to Andover, which we use to support teachers' and students' needs during the school year.
Our kindergarten team will be celebrating “Read Across America Week” with a Dr. Suess-themed dress-up schedule for the week of March 3rd-7th, and we’re inviting the entire school to join in on the fun! Monday, March 3rd, has been designated “crazy hair day,” which, for obvious reasons…I cannot participate in…but I will be supporting nonetheless!
Parents, during the week of March 3, 2025, families with students currently enrolled and zoned for Andover Elementary School will be given priority to enroll in Andover’s VPK program for the 2025-2026 school year. Parents/Guardians who cannot enroll during the week of March 3, 2025, will still be eligible to enroll during open enrollment, which begins March 10, 2025. Remember, priority will only be given during the week of March 3, 2025, for families with children currently enrolled at Andover Elementary School. Open enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis for students zoned for Andover Elementary School, and our programs fill up EVERY year. Parents/Guardians must provide the VPK Certificate of Eligibility along with the current proof of residence to conditionally secure placement in the program. To obtain your VPK Certificate of Eligibility, please visit https://familyservices.floridaearlylearning.com . To guarantee your child’s placement, an OCPS registration packet, and all required documentation MUST be submitted by June 26.
We’ll be hosting Andover's upcoming Spirit “McTeacher’s Night” at McDonald's on Curry Ford Road, and we’re hoping you can join us in person or through their drive-thru on Tuesday, March 11th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a meal and connect with Andover teachers and staff in a relaxed Mc-environment. We hope to see you there!
I’m sharing that National Take Your Child to Work Day is on Thursday, April 24. If you decide to keep your child out, their absence will be “excused,” provided you give us a note. Student absences are an ongoing issue within ALL of OCPS, not just at Andover. We see the adverse effects not attending school has on student achievement and test scores. We monitor your child's attendance and send truancy letters home, but please understand just how crucial being in school EVERY day is for your student's success.
