Classrooms are balanced between typical peers and peers with special needs, and applicants are screened to ensure a healthy compatibility in each of the half-day sessions for children ages three, four and five.
Busing is available, but not guaranteed for all of our students, to ensure convenient access to the centrally located Early Childhood Center. Visit our Department of Transportation (Bus Garage) page for ECC bus routes.
We invite you to tour the Early Childhood Center at our Open House in August and see for yourself how we’re starting students off on the right educational path. If you would like to schedule a tour or discuss registration, please email Janet Peare or call 330-497-5608. Enrollment is open to North Canton residents.
The Mary L. Evans Early Childhood Center, which is operated
by the North Canton City School District, has been recognized by the Ohio
Department of Education as a 5-star Step Up To Quality preschool. Our dedicated
staff members have advanced credentials and skillsets that focus on the needs
of individual children so that they develop the foundational skills of peers
their age prior to kindergarten. Our teachers follow the Ohio Early Learning
Standards and Developmental Standards that will prepare students for the K-5
curriculum used by the North Canton City School District. The Early Childhood
Center maintains smaller classroom ratios to nurture the personalized
instruction you would expect from an educational provider. Students may
participate in art education and physical education classes on a weekly basis
from a certified and licensed teacher. We also have three speech pathologists on
staff and a school psychologist, as well as access to a school nurse provided
by Akron Children’s Hospital and support for those students who require
occupational and/or physical therapy. Our focus is on developing the
social-emotional and academic nature of each child through individualized,
small group, and large group interactions.
