Transition College & Career
Before you finish high school, pre-employment transition services (Pre-ETS) can help you get ready for a job and become more aware and gain skills to be prepared for the world of work.
Pre-employment transition services can start at age 14 and are available until you graduate high school or turn 22. You do not need to apply for Vocational Rehabilitation, instead you can connect directly to a pre-ETS community provider while still in high school and benefit from the five pre-ETS services.
These services may include:
Work Based Learning Experiences/Internships:
- Job tours
- Guest speakers
- 20-25 hour internships for those who are deemed ready
Job Exploration Counseling:
- Interest Inventories
- Job searching
- Application training
- Resume preparation and resume writing
- Interview preparation and experience building
Work Place Readiness Training:
- Job keeping and work readiness
- Professionalism
- Team work
- Workplace manners and boundaries
- Integrity at work
Self-Advocacy/Mentoring Instruction:
- Peer mentoring groups on independent living and community employment
Counseling on enrollment in post-secondary education:
- Post-secondary research
- Academic advisor phone calls and seminars at local colleges
- Information sessions on resources at local colleges for people with disabilities
Flexibility with service delivery:
During or After School
Zoom, Google Classroom
In person or remote instruction
Individual or group instruction
