Northampton Educator Awarded $10,000 worth of Lego Robotics Kits for STEM Education

Northampton Educator Awarded $10,000 worth of Lego Robotics Kits for STEM Education

David Cantler, an Elementary Technology Integrationist, was awarded $10,000 worth of Lego robotics kits in a grant through Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The 25 Spike Prime kits represent a substantial expansion of a program started by Roxanne Mariani-Prall, the Tech Integration SpeciaList at Leeds & RK Finn schools. The grant included a day-long training with the new kits at WPI.

These new kits will help build upon the Lego robotics experiences of 2nd and 3rd graders and for 4th and 5th graders at Bridge and Jackson Street schools. The kits have all the flash and fun normally associated with Lego while using a new system for programming based on Scratch, a popular online block programming language.

The kits will help Bridge and Jackson Street schools to transition into Lego Robotics Week, a week-long set of activities focused on programming and engineering skills using the kits. The week-long set of activities include various challenges for students to complete using the kits, teamwork, and their imaginations.
