Principal Madden’s Weekly Update—Week of March 26—Happy Spring!

Principal Madden’s Weekly Update—Week of March 26—Happy Spring!

It was so nice to see so many families and friends at our music concert last week! Our students did such a good job, and we send a BIG thank you to our creative music teacher, Mrs. O’Connell. The Stompish theme was fun!

Photos this week show some of our kindergarten students enjoying “Forest Friday”.

Also, one of our 4th graders wrote and shared a book review in our library, which is just one of the exciting new events happening in our library! Thank you, Mrs. Pelis for generating so much interesting in reading!

Also, our art teacher, Ms. Macutkiewicz, had our first graders thinking creatively about inventing new creatures. Check out the “Water Dragon”!

MCAS Testing this Spring

Our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking MCAS tests this spring. The English Language Arts MCAS will take place in April, and the Math MCAS will take place in May. Our 4th and 5th graders will be taking the tests online this year. It is very important that students be present for testing and arrive to school on time.  We encourage families to avoid making appointments for students on testing days.

It is important to remember that any test is only one measure of a child’s performance at school. Teacher evaluations through the years, day-to-day work, and other types of performance assessments and projects are additional ways to evaluate learning. However, these tests are important, and we are doing all we can to prepare our students to take these tests with calm confidence.

Some parents have asked for more information about the new MCAS 2.0. Here is a resource link to practice tests that we will be using at school, but you can also take a look at them at home if you wish.
