The journey of a Whatcom County water molecule offers a fascinating chance for Nooksack Valley Middle School students to study science in a real way. As part of the school’s Snow to Sea field trip, students across the three grades at the school study how a water molecule travels from Mount Baker into Bellingham Bay and the various impacts along the journey. Sixth graders visit Mount Baker to understand snowpacks and glaciers. They also enjoy Camp Saturna on Silver Lake for two days. The seventh graders make trips to a local farm and Birch Bay, while the eighth graders visit Bellingham’s boating center and sail on Bellingham Bay.
