Emergency / Inclement Weather Bus Routes

In the event of road closures or bad weather, Emergency Routes may be used. These may include the East Badger Rd. (SR546), Pole Rd. (SR544) and Reese Hill Rd. (SR547). In the event that the emergency routes are utilized, it will be announced on local radio and TV stations (see above).

Preschool, Mid-Day or Special Buses will NOT run on their regular scheduled routes.

There will be three separate possible bus routes. The REGULAR ROUTES will not change, but the EMERGENCY/BAD WEATHER ROUTES will have some changes. Depending on the weather, all roads may be clear for regular routes except those located in and around Sumas. In this instance, snow routes will continue to be utilized for the buses that run in and around the Sumas area only, with all other routes running on the regular schedule. The three bus routes that will be used are listed below.

  • Regular Routes: All buses will pick up students waiting along their respective regular routes.
  • Snow Routes: We will travel on all main roads and State Highways. We will pick up students wherever it may be convenient and safe for them to catch the bus.
  • Snow Routes - Sumas Only: Snow routes for Sumas affect buses #11, #27 and #2 and refer to those areas north of the Lindsay Rd.

When the snow routes for Sumas Only are in effect, all other buses will run on their regular routes as much as possible.  Each bus driver will try to keep parents and/or students advised on changes that are made to the routes. As weather conditions improve, routes will return to normal. Any changes in regular routes will be announced on the above listed radio and TV stations beginning at 5:45 a.m. The announcement will include information regarding whether or not school will be in session, or if school will start late and which bus routes will be used. You may also contact the Transportation Department, district Office and all School offices for information.

The Transportation Department asks all parents to keep their children from walking along the major highways and roads. Road conditions can be VERY HAZARDOUS and drivers may not easily see the children. You may contact the Transportation Department to make arrangements for an alternative bus stop if this cannot be avoided.
