Free and Reduced Meal Status

School Year 23/24 Free and Reduced Meal Approval

NV will be operating the Community Eligibility Provision  (CEP) program this school year.  This program allows all NV Students to receive meals at no cost while on campus.  Every student is allowed one breakfast and one lunch meal each school day while on campus. 

No meal applications are accepted while operating  CEP.   Instead, families that don't automatically qualify for Free & Reduced meals status by way of Direct Certification* will be asked (not required) to fill out  a FAMILY INCOME SURVEY.   

*Directly Certified means students are automatically approved for Free & Reduced Meal status from the State data base, which is based on SNAP, TANF, FOSTER, MIGRANT, or MEDICARE recipients. OR students qualify as Migrant, McKinney-Vento or Foster Child thought a NV support liaison. 

  • Directly Certified students  aren't  required and shouldn't fill out a Family Income survey.
  • Students who are directly certified with Free & Reduced Meal status will still receive a Meal Status approval letter 

The Family Income Survey  form helps us collect economic demographics of our non-directly certified households with  students attending CEP schools.  Without this information, Nooksack Valley School District could lose important state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.

FAMILY INCOME SURVEYS :

  • Are used to to assess economic demographics percentages which certain federal and state funding sources are based on, for example, Learning Assistance Program. Completing the survey will ensure NV School District continues to be awarded these funds.
  • Are simpler and quicker to complete than a meal application.
  • May make your student eligible for reduced or no fees for ASB, School Activity or other community programs

  • If your students aren't directly certified as Free/ Reduce meal status, a Family Income Survey will be sent to you home in October for you to fill out and return . OR you can print the form below and submit to any NV school's main office. 

CONSENT TO SHARE FORM-  If your student is qualified for free or reduced meals, you may be eligible for certain fee waivers or fee reductions to participate in other school and/or community programs.

  • In order to allow NV Food Services to share your child's approval status for Free & Reduced meals, you must give written consent.  This will allow us to share only your approval status  and only to very specific NV district department activities representatives who can process the fee reduction or waivers. 
  • This Form is optional for fee waiver or reduction purposed only. 
  • Is available digitally through your family access account.
