    McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act (MKV) of 1987 provides support for homeless children and youth to continue their education without interruption or barriers. If your family is homeless, or if you are in a temporary living situation due to economic circumstances, your preschool-aged and school-aged children have certain rights or protections under federal law.

MKV defines homeless children as "individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence." Such as  children and youth living in shared housing, motels, trailer parks, campgrounds, cars, parks, public spaces, or any non-typical situation due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason.

Under this, transportation to and from a student's school of origin is provided to students experiencing homelessness at a parent or guardian's request (or liaison's request for unaccompanied youth).
