• graphic of kids      Special Education services in the Mill Valley School District (MVSD) foster inclusive practices and climates where individuality and diversity are respected, honored, and celebrated. The District partners with our staff, students, and parents to develop successful learning environments for the academic and social success of each student.

The District strives to provide a continuum of services available to all the students in our schools. We use a number of supports designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities and to enable their access to the general education curriculum. The District has special education personnel who are qualified to deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction and support services, to ensure that students are able to access the curriculum in the least restrictive environment for each student.

MVSD uses instructional strategies based on the principles of universal design for learning. These strategies present information in multiple ways and allow students to express what they know in a variety of ways.  We offer robust assistive technology devices and services to enable access to the curriculum as a principle of universal design for learning.

We have strong partnerships with our parent organizations. Mill Valley has a parent-run special education PTA called It Takes A Village (ITAV) that promotes the academic success of all students in Mill Valley schools who learn differently through parent education and advocacy. Please visit their site and consider becoming a member today.

We also work with Dedication to Special Education (DSE) whose mission is to improve the quality of special education in Marin County public schools, while connecting families for a stronger community. DSE has been a strong supporter of our special education programs and classrooms and we encourage you to learn more about their work in Marin County.
