Marsha Alexander has been a music teacher for 34 years at Cherokee Bend.  She has served as President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Orff Schulwerk Association.  In 2005 she was Local Co-chair for the AOSA National Convention.  The Orff methodology encourages each child to experience music through singing, listening, moving, playing instruments and creating.  

This participatory approach combines song, speech and drama, creative movement and dance, and instruments.  The combination engages all of the participants' senses in the musical "moment." Such an approach takes advantage of the young child's natural instincts to experience music and movement as a whole. It also allows individuals with different abilities and interests to find a means of expressing themselves through music.
