Creative Writing is a one-semester course designed for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders who enjoy writing and desire the opportunity to write poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Our class is a community, and the enterprise is based on our willingness to learn from one another. The more meticulous, sensitive, and generous-minded a reader you become, the better your own prose will be. I expect you to bring curiosity and good will to the workshop. Your critiques should be honest, respectful, exploratory, and thoughtful. This class is a community of working writers, and it’s our responsibility to do everything we can to help each other improve.
The goal of this class is to make you both a better writer and a better reader, and those two skills are intimately intertwined. Doing the assigned reading of each other’s work and incorporating the lessons I’ve taught is an essential part of your growth.
