Dick "Pops" Clem
-
Dick "Pops" Clem has been an outstanding leader and mentor for a number of children and coaches over his last 19 years. A graduate of Towson University in Maryland, Mr. Clem wrestled during college and was inducted into of the university's sports hall of fame for his achievements in wrestling.
He spent his career as an educator, teaching for 35 years with the Baltimore County school system. Coach Clem taught social studies and coached and refereed wrestling and soccer. He also coached wrestling at Loyola College. Upon retirement, the Clems moved to Madison to be closer to their grandchildren.
Coach Clem invested time in Madison's youth sports as he coached his grandchildren. Wrestling remained a passion for Coach Clem even in retirement, so he chose to continue to coach wrestling at Bob Jones.Mr. Clem is married to Annette, and they are parents to two children. Their daughter Sharon lives in Dallas, Texas. Their son, Todd and his wife Ellen, live in Madison. The Clems have five grandchildren and are anticipating the birth of their first great-grandchild. Steven Fisher

Steven Fisher is a 1992 graduate of Bob Jones where he played baseball for four years. After graduation, Mr. Fisher enlisted in the Alabama National Guard as a Patriot Crewmember and later enlisted in the United States Army as an Aviation Operations Specialist.
Mr. Fisher spent three years in the 101st Airborne Division before being reassigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, KY. During his time in the 160th, he deployed six times in support of combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Mr. Fisher reported to Fort Rucker, AL in 2006 where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Army's newest Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) course before leaving the service in 2009. Since then, he has held positions of increased responsibility as a government contractor and civil servant and currently serves as the Military Deputy Director as well as the Chief of Operations for AMRDEC.
Mr. Fisher holds a bachelor's degree from Troy University and graduate degrees from Strayer University and Arizona State University. His wife, Pam, is a 1991 Bob Jones graduate and 1990 homecoming queen. His daughter, Paige, is a 2016 Bob Jones graduate and son, Robbie, is a senior. His youngest daughter, Nora, will start school next year at Horizon Elementary. Congratulations, Steven Fisher!
Erick Ordonez

Erick Ordonez is a 1999 graduate of Bob Jones High School. He was a model student and received All-Metro and All-County honors for football. He was also named All-State in track and field. Mr. Ordonez hold degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering from New Mexico Highlands University and University of Alabama Huntsville and is employed at NASA.
During his years at New Mexico Highlands, Erick played football and was part of the conference champion team in 1999 and was freshman player of the year. At UAH, Erick served as president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and vice president of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Ordonez has worked as a test engineer at Johnson Space Center in Houston and currently works as a system engineer at Marshall Space Center. By founding Huntsville' Rocket City Latin Festival, Mr. Ordonez has made significant contributions to the culture of our community and has been recognized by the mayor and governor for doing do.
Erick is the son of Elia Rivas of Madison and Guillermo Ordonez of El Paso, Texas. Erick and his wife, Veneranda, are parents to Noracarol, a freshman and JV cheerleader at Bob Jones. Congratulations, Erick Ordonez.
Sheila P. Roberts

The Hall of Fame nomination form for Sheila P. Roberts included several letters from former students and parents that she aided in her role as College and Career Advisor at Bob Jones High School. One student stated, "She was my advocate and believed that I could be successful, so I began to believe that as well." Other students said these words describing Mrs. Roberts, "She is a champion for her students, advocating for and empowering us to achieve our dreams." "She goes above and beyond to care for students as individuals."
Mrs. Roberts works part-time now as the Madison City Schools' District College and Career Advisor since retiring from Bob Jones in 2015. Mrs. Roberts holds degrees from Illinois State University, the University of North Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and then University of Alabama. She joined the faculty of Bob Jones High School in 2003 began work to support students and their families in the college application process lobbying for a work center for college recruiters and students and parents to meet. In 2011, Mrs. Roberts wrote grants to establish the Take Action Program (TAP) to address the disparity in college admission for students of poverty and those military connected. The program is highly successful and continues today. Her advocacy has increased scholarship opportunities for students exponentially. One parent commented, "She worked with empathy with us as parents to educate us and help us make informed decisions about our child's future." The class of 2012, the largest group of graduates from BJHS, earned more than $33 million in scholarships.
Mrs. Roberts' influence extends beyond work with students to include leadership in numerous professional organizations where she is also a frequent presenter. She has also served as a mentor to many pre-service counselors. Mrs. Roberts is married to John and has two children, Dave and Bara. Congratulations, Sheila Roberts!
Doyle Thornton

The Bob Jones High School Band program owes a great debt of thanks to Doyle Thornton. He came to Bob Jones High School in 1989 and took over a band program that marched onto the field for its first football game with only 17 students. He worked tirelessly to make the band successful even using his own truck to transport band equipment to games and to concerts.
Over the next 26 years, he built a program that included a 250+ member marching and concert band that was award winning at the local, regional, and national level. As the program grew and expanded, so did Doyle's influence on both students and educators. The number of his students who became National Merit Scholarship Finalists, received college scholarships, and graduated with honors is staggering. The assistants band directors who passed through his band program have all gone on to become accomplished educators at both the high school and college levels. His last 2 assistants have now become the band directors at Bob Jones and James Clemens High Schools ensuring that Doyle's impact on music in Madison will be a lasting one.
Mr. Thornton holds degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and Auburn University. Doyle and his wife, Ginger, are parents to one son, Bob. They enjoy spending time with their family in retirement. Congratulations, Doyle Thornton!
Steven Woolwine

There is a long list of accomplishments and contributions to Bob Jones High School, the city of Madison, and the state of Alabama over the last 37 years that make Steven Woolwine deserving of this honor.
Steve devotes his free time to supporting Bob Jones High School through cooking for and catering administrative, Booster Club, and Athletic Team events and fundraisers for the school. Mention Steve's name in a group, and you are bound to hear one of many great stories of how he has made a difference in the lives of so many individuals, families, and groups in our community. Steve attended Virginia-Wise College and is married to Alice. They are parents to Steven, Jr.
Mr. Woolwine was a volunteer coach in the 1980s for girls and boys basketball and girls tennis. He also served as Booster Club president and worked on the chain gang for football games for 22 years. Mr. Woolwine served as Director of Recreation for the City of Madison from 1980-1991 and oversaw multiple projects to improve the city's facilities, including securing funds to build the baseball field at Bob Jones. Steve was named Bob Jones Patriot of the Year in 2000, the State of Alabama District 2 Parks, and Recreation Director of the year in 1988. Congratulations, Steven Woolwine!
