I kicked off my teaching career in Las Vegas. A gamble that paid off! Going to concerts and theater productions make life worth living, and Vegas has a lot of that to offer. That is where I learned to love teaching. I used to take my students to the Las Vegas Strip to visit the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage Hotel. BEST field trips EVER. You don’t need a magic school bus to have fun learning-  I’m looking at you Ms. Frizzle.

After I taught in Las Vegas for five years, I moved back to my hometown of Ceres, California, where I taught for six years. Ceres is in the middle of California--that means easy access to the beach or the mountains. My family loves to kayak, swim, boogie board, snorkel, and sit in that beautiful Bay Area traffic...just kidding about that last part.

My family and I are new to the Logan area, although I have a lot of family history here. My parents and I are so excited to live here in Cache Valley, where we are closer to our immediate and extended family. It is good to be a Greenville Dragon!

Sarah Vazquez

Hello Greenville Dragons! My name is Ms. Vazquez and I am super excited to be the 6th grade math teacher!  I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan and moved to Utah when I was 18. I play the violin and the piano.  I also love to write music and arrange songs.  This will be my 6th year being an elementary school teacher and I love it!  I taught 6th grade in the Alpine School District for 3 years and spent the last school year teaching 5th grade in Tooele.  I recently moved to Logan and started my Master’s in Education at USU.  I am studying Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences. I am fluent in Spanish and love to speak it any chance I get.  I have two beautiful teenage daughters.  I got to teach one of them 6th grade.  Math is my favorite subject.  I love the satisfaction of working on long, hard problems and getting the solution.  It’s just like life.  I tell my students all the time that I believe in them and they can do hard things.

One of my favorite memories growing up was when I went to Australia and New Zealand with the Kalamazoo Youth Symphony!  I got to see kangaroos and koala bears up close.  We competed in an international youth symphony competition and earned first place!  Music and math are very similar.  It takes a lot of practice to become good at them.  My students soon learn that I expect them to always show their work and to never give up.  I can’t wait to meet you all. We are going to have a great year!
