Review: ESSER III Funds:

Candace Mullen reported the Student mentoring program is going very well. Ten teachers are each mentoring five students who were referred by faculty members. Teachers are spending 30 minutes a week with each student and seeing valuable interaction and results so far. Juan Caballero reported on the After School Center, where any student can receive help and tutoring in Math, Science Social Studies and Language Arts from 20 teachers. They are seeing approximately 30-40 students and receiving positive feedback from students and teachers alike.

Update: Learning Academy

Tashina Calverley, one of the Instructional Coaches reported on Learning Academy. There are fifty teachers participating this year, it is a mandatory assignment for new teachers and voluntary for others. Twenty-four sessions are held and the focus this year is on Gradual Release, a teaching strategy characterized by a sequence of learning activities that shift the responsibility from the teacher to the student. Both new and veteran Faculty members who are participating spoke to the effectiveness of Learning Academy.

Update: Graduation/Intervention Specialist

Justin Gudmunson has been hired for the position, he works mainly with seniors who are not on track to graduate, he sees approximately 20 students each week, has made a plan with and is seeing improvement with these students.

Review 1^st Term Data on track to graduate

Principal Guymon reviewed the data we have received for 1 st term, for 9 th graders, 85% are on track, 10 th are 66%, 11 th are 63% and 12 th are 72% on track to graduate on time. Council member asked how that compares to last year; he will have that data at the next meeting.

Review: Americorps Mentoring

Specialist Michael Manning works mainly with 9 th graders helping them with attendance and keeping up on grades. He is currently working with approximately 50-60 students. A councilmember asked what percentage of the students are ELL, he said it is about 10%.
