Floyd "Babe" Herman - 1921 - Competed in four sports at Glendale Union High (Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Track and Field) - Named Southern California's most outstanding high school baseball player and California State baseball player of the year in 1920. Major League Baseball- Outstanding player for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He still holds Dodgers all-time record for highest batting average, .393.
Frank Wykoff - 1928 - High school - State Champion 100 and 200 yard dash, led GUHS to the State Championship in 1927, Named State High School Track Athlete of the Year; College - won NCAA 100 yard dash titles in 1930-31 and AAU titles in 1928 and 1931; ran his first official 9.4 time at 100 yards in 1930. Gold Medal winner on the U.S. 400 meter relay in three different Olympics (1928, 1932, 1936)
Gene Mako - 1932 - He was the 1934 National Collegiate singles and doubles champion while lettering at USC for 3 years (1934-36-37). He won 2 Wimbledon (1937-38) and 3 U.S. Open (2 in 1936, 1 in 1938) doubles titles. In 1936, he won the regular and mixed doubles titles at the U.S. Open. Mako was in the U.S. Top Ten in 1937 and 1938 (reaching as high as No. 3), and was ranked World No. 8 in 1938.
Delos Thurber - 1934 - CIF and State champion in the high jump. 3-time All-American in the high jump at USC, 1936, 1937, 1938. Olympic Bronze medalist in 1936.
Ted Schroeder - 1935 - NCAA tennis champion while playing at Stanford University. Wimbledon champion.
Bob Dillinger - 1936 - He player football, basketball and baseball at GHS. Major League Baseball, he led the American League in hits in 1948 and in stolen bases three consecutive years (1947-49).
Frank Albert - 1937 - So. Cal. and State High School Football Player of the Year, All-American at Stanford, Heisman Trophy Finalist, College Football Hall of Fame, NFL.
Bob Reinhard - 1938 - All-CIF in football. Teammate of GHS legend Frankie Albert and helped lead Dynamiters to the 1937 CIF football championship. All-American at UC Berkeley, member of University of California Athletic Hall of Fame. He was named a college All-American in 1940 and 1941. Played professionally with the Los Angeles Dons of the AAFL and the Los Angeles Rams.
Owen "Guinn" Smith - 1939 - High school State Champion in pole vault- NCAA Champion in the pole vault for UC Berkeley. 1941 NCAA pole vault champ, 1947 National pole vault champ. 1948 Olympic Games polo vault champion.
Alan Grimley - 1943 - Southern California Basketball Player of the Year.
Al Lawrence - 1943 - Southern California Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Rudy Regalado - 1946 - Star on the Dynamiters' basketball and baseball teams. Was All-CIF in baseball. He was a standout on USC's baseball team. Major League Baseball, played 3 years with the Cleveland Indians. Played third base in the 1954 World Series.
Tom Riach - 1947- Southern California High School Basketball Player of the Year. All-American at USC and was named. Conference Player of the Year 1951. Riach was captain of the 1951 USC basketball team. He lettered in three seasons in basketball and baseball at USC, and was a seventh-round selection by Baltimore in the 1951 NBA draft.
Steve Turner - 1950 - (National H.S. record holder). 1950 - So. Cal, State, USA Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Darrell Sutherland - 1959 - CIF 3A Basketball Player of the Year- All-conference at Stanford in baseball and basketball, Major League Baseball.
Tom Dose - 1960 - CIF 3A Basketball Player of the Year. All-conference at Stanford, drafted by the L.A. Lakers.
Damon Bame - 1960 - All-CIF in football. Two-time All-American at Glendale College, Two-time All-American at USC, member of USC Athletic Hall of Fame. Named to the USC Football All-Century team.
Dave Reed - 1961 - In 3 years at GHS he lost only one match. That loss came in the CIF championship game as a sophomore. His junior and senior years he was the undefeated CIF champion. He starred at UCLA with tennis legend Arthur Ashe. UCLA won the national team championship in 1965. Reed placed second in the country in doubles.
John Block - 1962 - All-CIF in basketball. Record setting scorer at USC where he set 10 school records. He was team captain for the Trojans in 1966 and team MVP in 1965 and 1966. He was named to the All-America team in 1966 where he led the Pacific Coast Conference in scoring averaging 25.2 points per game. He scored 30 or more points nine times in his college career and still holds the USC single scoring record with 45 points. Block also holds the USC record for most free throws made in a game when he made 21 out of 21 attempts in a 1966 game. He played in the NBA for 10 years and was an NBA All-Star in 1973.
Chuck Arrobio - 1962 - All-CIF lineman on the football team.
He was a first team All-American tackle at USC in 1965. The 6' 4" 250 pounder was team co-captain at USC with Heisman Trophy winner Mike Garrett. He played one season professionally for the Minnesota Vikings.
Gary Sutherland - 1962 - He was a Major League Second Baseman and Shortstop for 13 seasons from 1966-1978.
Gordon Knudson - 1963 - Southern California (CIF) Baseball Player of the Year- All-CIF in football.
Mark Chatfield - 1971 - National High School Swimming Champion (#1 in 100 breaststroke, #1 in 200 IM, #2 in 100 backstroke in the United States, Olympic record holder 100-m breaststroke, 1972 Olympic Games.
Dwight Stones - 1971 - High school- State Champion and State record holder in high jump, All-American at UCLA, Long Beach State. 1972, 1976, 1984 Olympic Games, Bronze Medals in 1972 and 1976. Eleven-time National Champion. Established the World High Jump record in 1976 with a jump of 7 feet, 7 and a quarter inches.
Brett Miller - 1976 - Played football at the University of Iowa, where at 6' 7", 292 lbs., he was a standout offensive lineman.
Played 10 seasons in the NFL. Six with the Atlanta Falcons, one season with the San Diego Chargers, three seasons with the New York Jets
Lee Balkin - 1979 - CIF and State champion high jump. Still holds the State Championship Meet record for the high jump (7 feet, 3 and a quarter inches). Best jump after high school was 7 feet, 7 inches to finish second in the nation in 1987.
All-American at UCLA.
Kelly Henry - 1980 - UNDEFEATED CIF champion in tennis for 3 years (1978, 1979, 1980). 4-time All-American at USC (1981, 1982, 1983 and in 1984 was an All-American in both singles and doubles). Played on USC's 1983 National Championship team. Henry played professionally as doubles partner to Tracy Austin.
Duane Bickett - 1981 - CIF 2A Basketball co-Player of the year. All-CIF in football, All-American (football) at USC, NFL Rookie of the Year, NFL- 12 seasons.
Rich Grande - 1985 - CIF 4A Basketball Player of the Year, Team captain at USC.
Jenny Dalton - 1992 - All-CIF and Pacific League Player of the Year in volleyball, basketball and softball. League champion and school record holder in the shot put. CIF record for career home runs in softball. University of Arizona- 3-time first team All-America in 1994, 1995, 1996, helped Wildcats to three National Championships. During her senior season at Arizona, Dalton won National Player of the Year honors by batting .469 with 25 home runs and 109 RBIs.
Member of USA national baseball team (2009).
Scott Greenwood - 1996 - CIF finalist in the swimming (100-yard and 200-yard freestyles.) School records in both events.
He swam two years at USC and then transferred to UC Berkeley where he was a two-time All-American. Ranked among the top 25 in the world in the 50-meter freestyle. Qualified for the Olympic trials. He was part of the national champion 400-yard freestyle relay in 2000 that broke the NCAA record. In 2000 he was also part of two relays that were Pacific-10 conference champions (200 and 400-yard freestyle relays).
Kevin Witt - 1998 - CIF Division 3 Water Polo co-Player of the Year, 3-time NCAA All-American at Loyola Marymount, Member of the USA Men's National Water Polo Team.
Arman Momdzhyan - 2013 - CIF Division 5 Water Polo Player of the Year.
