SUN Bucks

SUN Bucks is a new EBT program offering qualifying families a $120 payment per child in the household to help increase access to food during the summer months.

In order to be eligible for SUN Bucks, your family must:

  • Have filled out and been approved to receive free and reduced lunch, or …
  • Receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Food Assistance Program (FAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or State-Funded Assistance (SFA)

Your family will not automatically qualify for SUN Bucks if your student attends James Lintott Elementary (grades K-2), Orin Smith Elementary (grades 3-5) or Chehalis Middle School (grades 6-8) where school meals are free to all students. You must fill out the proper paperwork and meet income guidelines to receive free and reduced lunch.

If you believe your family meets the income requirements for SUN Bucks and you have not yet filled out the paperwork for free and reduced lunch, please do so before June 14. For grades K-8, fill out a Family Income Survey and for grades 9-12, fill out a Free and Reduced Price Meals Application. Both forms can be found below in both English and Spanish versions.

If you have questions about the SUN Bucks program, please call the SUN Bucks Contact Center at 1-833-543-3230 (TTY: 1-800-833-6348) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday–Friday (except observed holidays). Later this month, families can opt in for text messaging alerts about their child’s SUN Bucks status at textsunbucks.dshs.wa.gov.

Food Services/Menus

How Much Does Lunch Cost?

  • At James Lintott Elementary (grades K-2), Orin Smith Elementary (grades 3-5) and Chehalis Middle School (grades 6-8), all students are automatically eligible for free breakfast and lunch. This means one free meal per student per meal served. If a student chooses to have an additional meal or order a la carte items, their student account will be charged.
  • At W.F. West High School (grades 9-12), students must pay for breakfast and lunch unless their family has applied for and been notified they are eligible for free or reduced lunch (more info below). Breakfast is $2.00 and lunch is $3.55.

To view your student’s lunch account balance, log into Family Access in Skyward and choose “Food Service” in the menu bar on the left hand side. This page gives you information on your student’s balance, fees due, payments made and daily account of what your student has purchased. A payment button will take you to a portal where you can make a payment to your student’s account.

W.F. West students will not be denied meals if they do not have a balance in their student lunch account, but the cost of their meal will be added to their account and parents will be billed toward the end of the school year if they have a balance owed. Want to keep from being surprised by a lunch bill? Log into Family Access in Skyward and then choose “My Account” at the top of the page. You can opt in to receive a message if your student’s lunch account goes below $5 remaining.

School Meal Account Refunds

If your student graduates or is leaving the Chehalis School District and has a remaining balance left on their school lunch account, you may request a refund by filling out the Request for Refund Form and returning it to the Chehalis School District Office, 310 16th Street (sharing a parking lot with W.F.
