Positive Behavior
Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to
establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students
in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. We began
implementation of the PBIS program in 2014 and established a solid foundation
on which to improve upon. Here at Furr, we center PBIS on 4 Core Values: Safe,
Orderly, Act Responsibly, and Respectful – also referred to as S.O.A.R.
behaviors around school. Teachers and Staff explicitly teach and model S.O.A.R.
behaviors throughout the year and across all of our behavior focus areas
including: the classroom, bathrooms, cafeteria, playground, hallway, and buses.
Students are encouraged to display S.O.A.R. behaviors in all of these focus
areas. An incentive system is in place to reward students as faculty
acknowledges their positive behavior. We use “S.O.A.R. Cards” to keep track of
students’ progress to earning those incentives. More about the S.O.A.R. Card
system and incentives can be found by clicking on the S.O.A.R. Card link on the
